If you live in, or find yourself in, beautiful Orange County, CA, and have a hankering for breakfast food with something extra, might I recommend, again, a favorite of mine? Chef John Q, owner of Ramos House Cafe, has been making great breakfasts, like the crab hash served with bacon-scrambled eggs, crispy onions, and citrus cream pictured above, since 1994.
In addition to great food, the relaxed beauty of San Juan Capistrano's historic Los Rios district is really something to experience. Huell Howser certainly thought so when he featured it on an episode of Road Trip. Home to California's oldest street, Los Rios is part of California's Gold.*
In addition to Ramos House, Los Rios is home to great coffee at Hidden House, The Tea House on Los Rios and much more. Come in the off-season to avoid the many tourists, or enjoy it in the summer, but do visit.

* EDIT: After I'd let this one fly my hindsight started tingling. "I should have called it 'California's Gold'", I'd thought, "as a tribute to H.H. and made a little summer series out of it." So, consider this the first in a series. People are traveling, so I'll revisit some spots I've enjoyed.
